Prestige Tour Best of Tuscany Includes Brunello Di Montalcino Wine Tasting
This tour focuses on the Val D’Orcia region: the historic hill towns of Montepulciano, Pienza and the vineyards of Montalcino. If you have a taste for Tuscany but just a short time in Italy, this tour is for you! By mid-morning we’re in the ancient Etruscan town of Montepulciano where we’ll explore the exposed brick Duomo, the main square, Punch’s Tower, ancient Etruscan wells and medieval wine cellars still used today. We’ll have a bit of free time for photo ops before we head to the vineyards of Montalcino, where we arrive just in time at Sant’Antimo Abbey where stone walls ring with the sound of Gregorian chants. Montalcino is where Italy’s best wine, Brunello di Montalcino, is produced. We’ll head out of town to a typical Tuscan farm to devour three courses of regional dishes, washed down with local wines. followed by a guided wine tasting of the wines produced on site. Back on the bus your guide will prepare you for our next stop – Pienza. You will hear how this World Heritage site was conceived by Pope Pius II as a “Utopian Village”, and with free time to explore, you may want to visit the two Renaissance palaces and the beautiful Duomo – make time to sample Pienza’s pecorino cheese! With full bellies and bags packed with wine, cheese and picci pasta, we’ll head back to Rome.
